Hardwood Care & Maintenance
Wood is a natural material that reacts to its environment. Proper care and maintenance will protect your investment, extend the life of your floors, and maintain your warranty coverage.

Daily & Weekly Cleaning
Recommended Methods
- Dust mop or dry microfiber pad daily in high-traffic areas
- Vacuum with soft brush attachment (hard floor setting)
- Slightly damp cloth for spot cleaning — wring thoroughly
- Use only hardwood-specific cleaning products
Never Use
- Wet mops or string mops with excess water
- Steam mops — heat and moisture damage the finish and wood
- Excess water — standing water causes irreversible damage
- All-purpose household cleaners not designed for hardwood
Section 02
Approved Cleaning Products
Use only products specifically formulated for hardwood floors.
- Ammonia-based cleaners — break down the finish
- Vinegar or acidic solutions — dull and etch the surface
- Wax or polish (unless you have a wax finish system)
- Oil-based cleaners — leave residue and attract dirt
- Murphy's Oil Soap or similar — builds up over time

Moisture & Climate Control
This is the #1 protection for your hardwood floor. Wood is hygroscopic — it expands and contracts with changes in humidity.

Preventative Maintenance
- Apply felt pads to all furniture legs — replace regularly
- Use area rugs at entrances and high-traffic zones (breathable, non-rubber backed)
- Lift furniture when moving — never drag across the floor
- Trim pet nails regularly to prevent scratches
- Use protective mats under rolling chairs (no hard casters)
- Avoid high heels — point loads can dent the wood

Sunlight & UV Exposure
All wood changes color over time when exposed to sunlight — this is a natural characteristic, not a defect.
- Rotate area rugs and furniture periodically to allow even exposure
- Use curtains or UV-filtering blinds in high-sun areas
- Expect gradual color shift — this is normal for all natural wood

Spill Response
- Clean spills immediately — do not allow any standing water
- Blot with a dry cloth — do not wipe or spread the liquid
- For sticky spills, use a slightly damp cloth then dry immediately
- Check surrounding planks for signs of moisture migration

Long-Term Maintenance
- Recoat when the finish shows signs of wear — do NOT wait until raw wood is exposed
- Consult a professional flooring contractor for recoating
- Sand and refinish when the floor can no longer be recoated
- Professional maintenance every 3–5 years depending on traffic

What NOT to Do
- Never use steam mops — heat and moisture destroy the finish
- Never soak or flood the floor during cleaning
- Never use harsh chemicals, bleach, or abrasive cleaners
- Never use rubber-backed mats — they trap moisture against the wood
- Never allow pet urine or water to sit on the surface
- Never use the floor before adhesive has fully cured
